PlayStation 5

Two bespoke artworks created for the global launch of PlayStation 5 based on Zhestkov's projects — Layers and Computations, which became embodiments of the soul of the new console.

Two short films, 2020

About project

Two bespoke artworks were created for the global launch of PlayStation 5 that was streamed online in the summer of 2020 and attended by millions of viewers.

Both of the films were based on Maxim’s previous projects — Layers and Computations, which became embodiments of the soul of the new PlayStation console.

Created in close collaboration with PlayStation’s creative team and production team at Media.Work, the artworks were shown in the key moments of the presentation — at the start and at the moment of long-anticipated console reveal.

Opening

The opening video featured PlayStation's brand symbols—triangle, circle, cross, and square—appearing from white monoliths.

Slowly opening, minimalist monuments showed their complicated and ever-changing inside containing the symbols, majestic and glorious.

Based on the artwork Layers, the piece was an exploration of the difference between internal and external. Silent and nondescript at first sight, the monuments appear to be filled with energy and power. Placed in the realistic interiors, the moving sculptures are hypnotising and surreal, and the brand symbols emerge out of them as they were formed by pure imagination.

Reveal

The reveal video of PlayStation 5 captured the essence of the new device — powerful and mighty.

An intricate installation made of thousands of connected particles became a centrepiece of the film.

Shaping the brand symbols and spreading impulses of blue light, it is a portal into the new world of creativity and curiosity that is ready to immerse the viewer into the universes behind the console.
